Standards Mapping

As the UK energy industry is changing, there is a growing need for a workforce that can easily move back and forth between sectors. For the workforce, there are new and exciting opportunities in the renewable's sectors. For employers, there is demand for an agile and dynamic workforce as the industry becomes integrated across sectors.

Traditionally, the need to complete training and qualifications to transfer into a different sector has created obstacles to transition, both in terms of time and money for employers and individuals. There is overlap between the qualifications that are currently issued by different awarding bodies; however, without a system in place to recognise workers’ equivalent training, duplication is common.

During the development of the Energy Skills Passport, we worked with sector skills bodies, regulators and offshore energy companies to map and confirm the standards that are recognised between sectors. This industry-wide agreement to recognise qualifications and training across sectors is fundamental, as it removes the duplication of training as the workforce look to both transition and work seamlessly between sectors in the energy industry. Following Skills Passport implementation, the mapped standards will be kept up-to-date with the latest qualifications & training and any changes will be communicated to the industry. These mapped standards are the foundations of the Energy Skills Passport as it helps deliver a just transition for the energy workforce.

Please click on the categories below to learn more about the standards that have been mapped across the industry and underpin the Energy Skills Passport.

Technical Qualifications and Training
  1. Technical Qualifications & Training are courses required for the ongoing management and maintenance of technical assets within different industries

  2. These are the qualifications and training that the workforce would need to have to transition between sectors whilst continuing to perform their roles with no impact on their technical performance

Safety and Survival Training
  1. Safety & Survival Training is critical training enabling workers to safely perform their roles both in an onshore and offshore capacity

  2. Currently, there is sector-specific Safety & Survival Training for both the Oil & Gas (BOSIET / MIST) and Wind Sectors (GWO Basic Survival Training)

  3. OPITO are working with GWO to identify collaboration opportunities to map Standards between their different Safety & Survival Training Courses, looking at individual training modules and areas of overlap for mutual recognition

Specialist Emergency Response
  1. Specialist Emergency Response training is preparation for workers to react to and deal with critical emergencies that may arise onshore or offshore

  2. Not every member of the workforce has Specialist Emergency Response training; however, it is a key consideration to support the ongoing safety of the workforce when transitioning between sectors

Setting up integrations
  1. What should I do if I'm facing difficulties connecting to a source system?

    • To establish a connection, it's crucial that your name in the Skills Passport matches the Source system ID in the source system's database. First, double-check that the ID is entered correctly. Then ensure your name in the Skills Passport matches how it appears in the source system.

  2. Why am I limited to connecting only to Vantage or Credly?

    • Currently, Vantage and Credly are the only integrations we support. However, we are actively working on connecting to more integrations in the future.

  3. How can I remove my source system connections?

    • Removing connections once they've been set up isn't possible at the moment. Please raise a support ticket for assistance with this matter.

Qualifications Page
  1. Why are my qualifications missing from my qualifications page even though I'm connected to source systems?

    • All information is pulled directly from the source systems. If qualifications are missing, please contact the source systems directly. Before doing so, ensure that all filters are turned off.

  2. What should I do if the Skills Passport displays incorrect data for my qualifications, such as an incorrect expiry date?

    • Since all information is sourced from the source systems, it's best to contact them directly to address any inaccuracies.

  3. Where can I find my expired qualifications within the app if I have many?

    • You can manage your qualifications within the app by sorting and filtering them. By default, we hide expired qualifications.

  4. What should I do if my qualifications page displays incorrect information, such as an incorrect expiry date?

    • Since all data is retrieved from the source systems, it's recommended to contact them directly to rectify any discrepancies.

  5. Why aren't my qualifications updating?

    • Qualifications are updated from the source systems every time a user signs into the app. If you're experiencing issues, please ensure you're signing in correctly and if so please contact support for assistance.

Share Qualifications
  1. How do I share my qualifications with another individual?

    • To share your qualifications, navigate to the qualifications page and click the 'Share' button. You can then copy the displayed link and send it to the recipient outside of the Skills Passport. Alternatively, if they're present with you, they can scan the QR code provided.

  2. Why doesn't the PDF generated when I share my qualifications include all of them?

    • The PDF reflects the qualifications based on the sorting and filtering applied on the qualifications page. To include all qualifications, ensure all filters are turned off before generating a new link by clicking the 'Share' button again.

  3. My shared link for qualifications has expired. How can I generate a new one?

    • Simply click the 'Share' button again. Each time this action is taken, a new link with a fresh three-day expiry is generated automatically

Skills mapping
  1. Why does the Skills mapping page show my qualification as 'Unknown' even though I've achieved it?

    • The 'Unknown' status may appear for several reasons:

      • You haven't achieved the qualification, so it's not pulled through from your connected source systems.

      • The qualification may be in your Skills Passport but has expired.

      • Although you've achieved the qualification, you haven't set up an integration to this data source.

      • Skills Passport doesn't currently support integration with this particular data source.

  2. If I've obtained all the listed qualifications for a job role, does that guarantee me a job?

    • Having the required qualifications doesn't automatically ensure immediate job placement. Additionally, some employers may have specific training or qualification preferences beyond those listed.
